Multi-Duti Manufacturing, Inc. was formed after founder Gene Ashe procured the tooling for a thermoplastic centrifugal pump designed to mate with either a common industrial NEMA 56J-frame motor or a bearing pedestal. To complement the pump’s corrosion-resistant composite design, he developed his own non-metallic mechanical seal, Impenatra®.

In the mid-1980s, Gene offered an energy-efficient, close-coupled pump to an end user in the Koi hobby market who was searching for a reliable solution after experiencing multiple pump failures. Koi fish can be very expensive, and repeated failures of oil-filled sump pumps, combined with high operating costs, had caused significant frustration.

Because Koi pond systems require continuous operation, Gene configured a pump with an industrial-grade, four-pole motor that drastically reduced power demand. From this innovation, the highly popular Sequence brand was born, and energy efficiency has remained a primary focus ever since.
